So as you know, (if you dont you know now) for one of my part time jobs I teach ESL. My students are adults from many different countries. Malaysia, Philippines, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, China, etc. Well when a holiday is coming up I like to do a lesson on the holiday and talk about how Americans celebrate it, and how it may be different from their countries. If they dont celebrate that holiday then I enlighten them. If they leave here they should understand our culture.
So yesterday I started talking to my students about Easter. It was yesterday that I came to the realization of how odd Americans celebrate Easter. Let me explain. From my understanding we are pretty much the only country that celebrates it more than a sacred religious holiday. As I was talking to my students they were almost embarrassed and shocked at how we celebrate Easter. It gets better.....
So as I am explaining new life, flowers, eggs, baskets, the Easter Bunny..,. my students began giving me very confused faces, etc. Then the funniest part. I have a student who is 70 years old and he is from El Salvador. He said (picture this cute old man, with a spanish accent, it adds to the effect) he says "Teacher, i have question. You say bunny? why bunny? its a rabbit right?" I reply "Yes but we call it the Easter Bunny bec you can call a rabbit a bunny rabbit or bunny for short." "Ok, so its a rabbit then?" " Yes it is" He then says, I dont understand if he rabbit or bunny why he has eggs? he dont have eggs? he have little rabbits." Very good question, um we say that the bunny gets the eggs from the chicken and puts it in a basket and gives to children, and they find it Easter Morning." my student then says, "ok but why bunny? why not chicken? and why does he come and bring things for children? I said its like Santa Clause but in the Spring time. " oh ok."
I mean think about it, it is kind of odd. Also we talk about easter being beginning of life, and we have eggs, we didnt give them a chance at life! Anyways we had quite the discussion and it was funny, you probably had to be there, but i was struggling to try and justify why we did what we did on easter, and that was just one topic!

My New Favorite Hair Appliance

I wanted to let all the girls know about a hair appliance that I came to love even as much as the CHI and its so much cheaper!!!

Revlon Thermalaire Ceramic Hot Air Styler/Dryer - RV444C
It gives your hair so much volume and makes it sooo soft and smooth. Also it holds your style really well. Say goodbye to limp unmanageably hair that you just want to pull up in a pony tail because your sick of it never looking right! The best part is you can buy it at any store for a great price! Enjoy! Hopefully soon I can post some before and after pictures and you can see the difference.

March 31st is a special date in my life because
March 31st has become a very special date in my life. On March 31st I received my patriarchal blessing which obviously has made a huge impact on my life, and given me such direction and inspiration and helped me figure out what Heavenly Father's plan and mission is for me.
March 31st is also when I left on my mission, I entered the MTC on this day. Ironically though I was called to go into the MTC on April 7 in my letter. However as many of you know they called me and asked if I would go in a week early and receive Welfare Training. So because of this phone call, March 31st again has had significant meaning in my life, as serving a mission completely changed my life and again gave me further insight of who I am and what my true potential is.
Now today is March 31st and I just did something that will forever change my life as well. I didnt even realize it until I signed the paper and got a special feeling, today is March 31st of course! I just finished filling out and signed my graduation papers so I can graduate in Dec. Interestingly enough they were due awhile ago, but I guess I was supposed to sign them on this day to continue the significance of this day and how each event has been life changing.
Now that this day has become so special, and I just recently realized it, I am going to pay much closer attention on what happens on this day. Lets hope next year on March 31st, 2010 I will be getting married. Wouldnt that be a great date considering all of the above. Let's pray that it happens!
Enjoy today for it is a special day!
